The Rubio Dispatch

According to ABC news, the following is a list of bullet points in which the White House, Dems and Repubs have agreed to.  They’re horrendous, however I’d like to wait and see if this is really true, before packing up my bags and leaving the country.  

According to Dem/Repub sources involved the following is part of the so-called compromise: 

• A debt ceiling increase of up to $2.1 to $2.4 trillion (depending on the size of the spending cuts agreed to in the final deal).
• They have now agreed to spending cuts of roughly $1.2 trillion over 10 years.
• The formation of a special Congressional committee to recommend further deficit reduction of up to $1.6 trillion (whatever it takes to add up to the total of the debt ceiling increase).  This deficit reduction could take the form of spending cuts, tax increases or both.
• The special committee must make recommendations by late November (before Congress’ Thanksgiving recess).
• If Congress does not approve those cuts by December 23, automatic across-the-board cuts go into effect, including cuts to Defense and Medicare. This “trigger” is designed to force action on the deficit reduction committee’s recommendations by making the alternative painful to both Democrats and Republicans.
• A vote, in both the House and Senate, on a balanced budget amendment.

Not sure what to think about this.  However, i will freak out (if need be) in 11 hours, which is when we expect the next vote.  

In other news…I really can’t stand those in the progressive movement who base their decisions on certain outcomes because of ONE issue.  It’s absurd and does nothing for our “movement.”  In this case, I’m talking about the proponents for the DREAM Act.  Yes, I’m effin’ pissed that the DREAM Act has not become law, but seriously?  Yes, it’s upsetting when we compromise and do what we do.  But whether you’re a Democrat, progressives, liberals…whatever…these are the only people we have to make shizz happen in this country.  Who else are we going to depend on when it comes to #CIR, DOMA, DADT, etc?  The GOP?  The Teabaggers?  C’mon, people!  Wake the fuck up!  To all the Lt. Choi’s/Jane Hamshers of the world, who else is going to take the fight and fulfill the commitments made.  Yes, question your leaders and come up with better ideas, but don’t just throw them under the bus because this is really all we have.  WE don’t have the luxury of multi-party systems…we have the Democratic Party.  Let’s work to make it better, not just sit back and provide commentary on how bad things are.  We need strong, committed people that are going to make it happen, not fold the minute your “issue” is not immediately fixed.
